Legends Tea Affair

The Delta Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated honored members during a Legends Tea on April 7, 2007, at the Lexington Hotel. The event was attended by over 100 guests where many of the women wore some of the most fantastic looking hats of all colors and shapes. Of course there was a hat contest.

Yolanda Notyce the President of the Orlando Chapter welcomed the guests to the event. Delta Omicron Omega will celebrate 60 years of service in Orlando and the tea was held in order to acknowledge the founders along with current distinguished members. The "Pearls of Distinction" as the honorees were affectionately called included the following:

Florence Alexander, Ernestine Brown, Dorothy Floyd, Lorraine Harris, Juanita Humphries, Donesa Jackson, Susie Jackson, Juanita Maxey, Sylvia McElroy, Bertie Newberm, Blanche Ray, Ernestine Roberts, Edna Hargrett Thrower and Amanda Johnson Walker were honored for 50 years of service.

The following members were honored for their Social or Political contributions within the community: Lee Bryan, Hudie Stone, Geraldine Thompson, Nora Woodard and Florence Alexander. Also Carolyn Brown, Alfreda Gary, Lorraine Harris and Jeraldine Sims were honored for their local, regional and national contributions to the sorority.

Susie Jackson, Montez James and Opal Bowles Sanders were honored for being Charter Members of this chapter. There were 6 other charter members who are now deceased.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was founded in 1908 on the campus of Howard University. We are currently preparing not only to celebrate the Orlando chapter's 60 years of service but also the 100 years of service on a national level. Delta Omicron Omega was chartered in October 1947.

We are looking forward to serving in the community for years to come.
